The Power of Creative Work for Immigrants

07-08-2026

Creative work makes a difference for all of us, but especially for immigrants. The Barr Foundation’s new report, Creativity, Self-Expression and the Arts: Perspectives of First and Second Generation Young Adult Immigrants in Massachusetts, reveals how “creativity plays a central role in the lives of immigrants. Participants described creative expression as a vital tool for self-understanding, emotional wellness, and building community… help[ing] them navigate identity, connect across cultures, and foster belonging.” Though the report is U.S.-focused, its findings will resonate with readers in every part of the world.
