A Space to Be: What One Classroom Taught Me about Art, Listening, and Inclusion

This was a Mus-e session at a public primary school in Genova, Italy, in a room filled with light, nervous energy and about 20 children in motion. Some moved eagerly. Some hung back. Some followed Olivia Giovannini, the teaching artist leading the session. Others wandered in their own rhythm. Throughout it all, something subtle was happening: no one was being excluded.

Los festivales nacionales e internacionales de orquestas y coros juveniles inculcan una mentalidad de colaboración en sus participantes y proporcionan a todos los asistentes recuerdos intensos y duraderos. Pero su organización requiere mucho tiempo, conocimientos logísticos y políticas de protección de los niños y jóvenes bien pensadas y adaptadas a las familias. No sólo es agotador, también es caro. Y los responsables de los programas saben de primera mano que los alumnos progresan con o sin estos festivales nacionales o internacionales. Entonces, ¿por qué molestarse? ¿Qué ofrecen a los jóvenes que sus propios programas no puedan proporcionar?
Mi respuesta, en una palabra: perspectiva.

El Coro de Cámara Abreu (ACC) es un grupo vocal formado por jóvenes cantantes venezolanos que crecieron en los programas de El Sistema pero que actualmente residen en varios países de Europa.El grupo se fundó por el deseo de volver a hacer música con colegas y amigos.Hemos organizado una serie de conciertos, jornadas de aprendizaje colaborativo y talleres de formación para jóvenes cantantes y directores, continuando el legado y las enseñanzas visionarias del Maestro José Antonio Abreu.
