Superar Srebrenica Bosnia: Filming Student “Voice”

If “student voice” could be captured in a fairy tale on film, here is one way it might look.

Sistema programs in many countries are exploring ways to increase “student voice” in order to intensify students’ motivation and social development.  A program in Bosnia has taken a unusual approach.  In the summer of 2017, children from Superar Srebrenica took part in a series of film workshops with the well-known Bosnian-Herzegovinan director Jasmila Žbanić.  Over ten days of workshops at the 4th edition of Furaj svoj Film (Make Your Own Film), the Sistema students learned about acting, shooting and editing – finally producing their own nine-minute film. The musician Elvir Laković (best known under the stage name Laka), attended these workshops too, and with the children, composed and recorded the song heard towards the end of the film.

Capturando “la  Voz del Estudiante”

Los programas de El Sistema en muchos países están explorando maneras de aumentar “la voz del estudiante” para intensificar la motivación y el desarrollo social de sus estudiantes – mira una estrategia bosniaca. En el verano del 2017, niños de Superar Srebrenica participaron en una serie de talleres de cine con Jasmila Žbanić, directora renombrada de Bosnia y Herzegovina. Durante diez días de talleres en la 4a edición de Furaj svoj Film (Crea Tu Propio Film), los estudiantes de El Sistema aprendieron sobre la interpretación, el rodaje, y la edición – finalmente produciendo su propio film de nueve minutos. El músico Elvir Laković (mejor conocido bajo el nombre artístico Laka), asistió también a esos talleres, y con los estudiantes, compuso y grabó la canción que se escucha hacia el final del film.
