The Ambassadors’ Exchange: April 2021

04-07-2021

This month’s Ambassador updates are a vibrant mix of song, sound, and reflection. First, learn about how the Pizzicato Effect program in Australia has been ramping up motivation for the new musical year, and then watch Ugandan musicians from Architects of Music perform a local song. Afterward, read about an exciting initiative to strengthen connections between alumni and current students at the Harmony Project in LA, and then marvel at excellent performances by students from the Music for Peace Foundation in Turkey. Finally, contemplate along with Canadian Ambassador Helen Faucher as she examines a critical conversation she had with her violin teacher.

03-03-2021

The WE Ambassadors were recently invited to participate in the El Sistema USA 2021 National Symposium and Seminario. They participated in various events and hosted their own panel discussion on “The Magic of Music Mentoring Around the World.” For the latter, they filmed videos of themselves proudly talking about their musical programs. Here is what they had to say about the experience.

The Seminario, through a Student’s Eyes

03-02-2021

Last month, I was fortunate enough to participate in El Sistema USA’s Symposium and Seminario, which took place online. The week was full of informative and surprising sessions. Before the week began, I recorded two videos that were later used in the Symposium itself. The first was a video of me discussing how we mentor in my program, Sistema Utah, which was later combined with submissions from other World Ensemble Ambassadors. In the other, I performed “What We Will Be” by Danielle Williams on my violin. I couldn’t wait to hear how it sounded when joined with videos that other participating students had sent in.

It culminated in a creative activity in early December wherein each pen pal group that allowed each group of pen pals to create short videos summarizing their experiences with the project. Below, you can read two Ambassadors’ reflections on the project and view their final videos.
