Music Leadership Training with Musicians Without Borders

Applications are now open for a free training opportunity in the UK for arts facilitators interested in broadening their methodological toolkit. The program, run in tandem by Leeds Beckett University and Musicians Without Borders, will train participants in the working principles of the MWB music leadership programs that serve people impacted by war and armed conflict.

Register for the Artists as Changemakers Conference

The Artists as Changemakers Online Conference, hosted by Musicians Without Borders, is now open for registration. Presented in collaboration with ART27, the conference will take place on June 20 in acknowledgment of #WorldRefugeeDay and bring an array of workshops and presentations that highlight artist activism and teaching. Sessions will be presented in two blocks and feature the following speakers and organizations: Community Arts Network, Freemuse, Bristol Refugee Festival, Laura Hassler, Manu van Kersbergen, and Guus van der Steen. The conference is free and participants can register via Eventbrite.

Mitrovica, a miner’s town in Northern Kosovo, has been called Europe’s most divided city. Since the end of the Kosovo War in 1999, the river that runs through the city has become a de facto border between the minority Serb community in the North and the majority Albanian community in the South.

Looking back, Pablo is sure it was the all-night music-making that inspired him.

Born in war-time El Salvador, Pablo Mendez Granadino grew up in Los Angeles after his parents had fled from their village, San Pedro Perulapán. There had been musicians in his family for generations; he studied violin as a child and taught for five years at L.A.’s Harmony Project, an El Sistema–based music project for children from underserved communities. Chances to return to El Salvador to see his extended family were few and far between; when he went back to San Pedro in June 2015, it had been 15 years since his last visit. He was 30 years old.

Musicians Without Borders Schedules Musical Leadership Training for Early Spring 2021

Looking for practical tools to keep pace in the ever-evolving climate of the music classroom? Musicians Without Borders is offering a professional development series in music leadership that seeks to prepare its participants to comfortably manage conflict, to provide them with exercises for regulating socio-emotional behaviors, and to create inclusive classrooms that transcend language or cultural barriers. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and training will be held February 21–24 in Ede, The Netherlands. There is a cost associated with the training.
