Hosting Fire Up! in Athens: A Week of Collective Practice and Exchange

When the Academy for Impact through Music (AIM) suggested bringing the Fire Up! residency to Athens, we felt both excitement and a strong sense of responsibility. Our space is deeply meaningful to us; El Sistema Greece is a vibrant community grounded in trust, creativity, and daily collaboration, and inviting colleagues from across Europe into that community felt acutely personal. The residency itself was intense and demanding, with constant transitions between workshops, rehearsals, peer exchanges, and shared experiences. It also afforded us a rare opportunity: a chance to be students in our own teaching spaces, and to see those spaces through the eyes of our peers.

In the heart of Chilean Patagonia, the strings of a violin resonate deep within the temperate forest. Birds sing in harmony with the refined sounds of bows gliding over the strings; leaves whisper centuries-old stories. The Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve, where endangered species are protected, also embraces a group of young musicians—along with their mentors, who are string principals in the Brussels Philharmonic—during daily rehearsals and performances. It’s an inspiring fusion of human artistry and Patagonian majesty.

Para muchas organizaciones ajenas a nuestra comunidad común, el liderazgo se considera un título o una función formal, algo a lo que aspirar profesionalmente. Sin embargo, cuando se trata de la capacitación de los jóvenes, significa algo más. Lo vemos en las acciones, hábitos y mentalidades cotidianas que capacitan a las personas para marcar la diferencia. Para nosotros, el liderazgo consiste en inspirar a los demás simplemente viviendo tus valores.

En Enabling Leadership (EL), nos esforzamos por apoyar a los jóvenes en su camino hacia esas acciones y valores.
