Playing the Changes Recounts Groundbreaking Jazz Education Program in Apartheid South Africa

In a time of increasing polarization in higher education, a recent interview with musician Darius Brubeck reminds us that music has long helped to unite people in times of division. Playing the Changes tells the story of how a jazz education program brought students together during the height of apartheid in South Africa. Though first published as a book, the story is now a documentary as well, offering inspiration that creativity and risk-taking can pay off in crisis times.
