Unlocking Creative Force and Artistry through Hip-Hop and Soul

07-06-2021

A new video series that blends music, film, interviews, spoken word, and dance offers young creatives a chance to examine how artists respond to the world around them. Make a Joyful Noize, created by Soul Science Lab Cofounders Chen Lo and Asante Amin, is an exploration of the “visceral, contagious, and unapologetic energy of Black joy.” Says Amin: “Make a Joyful Noize came out of a necessity to create from a place of self-care. We want to live as our whole selves, unapologetically Black and beautiful. We want others to be inspired to do the same.” Commissioned by Carnegie Hall, this curriculum is free and available online; please share it with your students. Teachers and students might also be interested in this behind-the-scenes video of Amin and Lo’s process, available on YouTube.
