PBS NewsHour Spotlights Genre-Bending Group Black Violin

PBS NewsHour recently caught up with Black Violin to discuss the group’s ongoing mission to disrupt people’s impressions of what classical music should be. NewsHour initially featured the group back in 2015 after the release of their album Stereotypes. Their recent segment focuses on their shared experiences at the intersection of race and classical music as well as the inspiration for the name Black Violin. Share the segment, and their music, with colleagues and students alike. Not only does it underscore the importance of representation—it’s a reminder that string playing can be fun and beautiful in new ways.
