Spotlight on Venezuela

El Sistema programs, mark your calendars: the second Global Congress of El Sistema will be held at the Centro Nacional de Acción Social por la Música in Caracas, Venezuela on September 10–24, 2023. The Congress will bring together El Sistema–inspired organizations from around the world to celebrate and build on El Sistema’s social impact worldwide. In addition to workshops and concerts offered throughout the congress, participants will come together to form the El Sistema World Orchestra and Choir. Participating organizations will also take part in cooperative projects, helping to consolidate and build connections across a global network of El Sistema–inspired programs. Event details will soon be posted on Il Congreso Mundial El Sistema’s website.

L.A. Philharmonic and YOLA Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel is one of the many talented musicians who got their start in El Sistema. In honor of his appointment as the Music Director for the New York Philharmonic, Caracas Chronicles highlighted other Venezuelan conductors with celebrated international careers who have remained dedicated to community initiatives. Check out their “Atlas of Venezuelan Orchestral Conductors” to learn about the many Venezuelan conductors who are making an impact abroad.
