Black Teaching Artist Lab Publishes Afrocentric SEL Framework
Last time we checked in with Black Teaching Artist Lab’s Melissa Parke, she was preparing to launch her Afrocentric Social Emotional Learning through the Arts framework. We’re happy to report that it’s now available online, replete with five Afrocentric SEL Competency Areas, interactive curricular examples and tips, ten journal reflections, and over 50 resources across the arts. This is a groundbreaking resource for arts educators looking to embed Pan-Africanism in their teaching through research-based pedagogical approaches. Educators are invited to explore their own cultural identities through art to strengthen their connections with Black learners, equipping them to engage fully with their curricula and learning communities. Access this resource for free on Ingenuity by creating an account or logging in through an existing LinkedIn account. You can learn more about Melissa’s work over at the Black Teaching Artist Lab and in her Ensemble article from last June.
