Two SIMM (Social Impact of Music Making) research seminars are welcoming attendees:

  • The 12th SIMM-seminar, happening September 7–9, 2026, will take place in Luxembourg at the Institute of Musicology and Arts of the University of Luxembourg’s Department of Education and Social Work. It’s the second edition of a three-day research seminar that will again bring together socially engaged practice-researchers from diverse arts disciplines. The deadline for applications is April 15, 2026; get the details at SIMM.
  • The 13th SIMM-seminar, happening November 11–13, 2026, will take place at Belgium’s Ghent University. Following the first such seminar in 2021 (in Porto), this seminar will focus on research on music programs in detention centers and prisons. The deadline for applications is April 15, 2026. SIMM will also co-edit two special academic journal issues this year:

  • The International Journal of Music Mediation (IJMM) is preparing a special issue (No. 5) on participatory opera and musical theater. The deadline for contributions is May 31, 2026. Learn more on the IJMM website.
