Drake Music Scotland Transforms Music Notation Teaching

06-15-2022

The nonprofit organization Drake Music Scotland is proving that technology can be more than a simple replacement for in-person experience. Their new software program, Figurenotes, transforms the experience of music notation learning—one of the most common barriers to playing music. Figurenotes was originally developed for students with learning disabilities, using a color- and shaped-based system for reading music. It has now been adapted for use by anyone who might benefit from a progressive path toward reading traditional notation. Music educators can also take advantage of Drake Music’s Accessible Music Hub—the first in the world—which offers teacher training, creative resources, and opportunities to connect with the global music community.
