B-ME: Blending Melodies – Bridging Cultural Identities

This is a project unlike any we’ve seen! Sistema Cyprus, El Sistema Greece, and the Associação das Orquestras Sinfónicas Juveniles Sistema Portugal have come together with the support of the European Union to launch B-ME: Blending Melodies – Bridging Cultural Identities. The project pairs musicians who have a refugee or migratory background with a composer from their current community to create a shared composition that draws on influences from their respective countries of origin. These compositions will be taught to students from participating orchestras, many of whom have refugee or migratory experiences themselves, and then performed for international audiences. And the project’s impact goes further: ensembles worldwide can join in as compositions are made accessible to other orchestras around the world, helping to celebrate cultural and community diversity.
