Songwriting for Public Health

Music is a powerful way to communicate an important message—that’s why it is so often used in public health campaigns and social movements. A recent article in the journal New Horizons in Adult Education and Human Resource Development reported on a collaboration between musicians in Kenya and Scientific Animation Without Borders, a U.S. university-based initiative that specializes in animated educational videos. The collaboration resulted in the creation of a new song and accompanying music video to educate adults in Kenya about public health practices related to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is just one of many songwriting initiatives that have helped raise awareness about public health and other community issues. With such a powerful tool at your fingertips, can you imagine how songwriting might be used to support your own social change initiative?
