Exploring the Effects of Music on the Brain and Body
04-11-2019
A new 12-minute film from Wired’s Tech Effects explores the effect of music on the brain and body. It has several particularly interesting features for Sistema-involved people, offering brain science insights into the differences between the experiences of playing music, improvising music, and being lit up by excitement while hearing music. Also, one segment of the film introduces and shares the research being done with students of Youth Orchestra Los Angeles, the Sistema program of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, by the Brain and Creativity Institute at the University of Southern California–a five-year study that uses brain scanning, among other techniques.
