Update from Sistema in Norwich

07-02-2019

In June, Sistema in Norwich (England) presented a special concert of music composed by and for their students.  “Sistema Composers” included the premiere of “The Ghost of Grafton Way,” a piece commissioned for the Colegate Núcleo Orchestra from composer and flautist Efraín Oscher; it tells the story of the ghost that haunted the house in Grafton Way, London, where Venezuelan independence heroes Simón Bolívar and Francisco de Miranda met in June 1810.  The composer was in Norwich for the premiere, working with the orchestra, giving a flute masterclass, and performing in the concert.  In addition, the concert featured the Cley Suite (created by Lakenham Orchestra children in 2016, to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of Cley Nature Reserve) and the Circus 250 Suite (created to mark the 250th Anniversary of the invention of the modern circus).  All three of these pieces have been made possible by funding from the Chivers Trust.  The remaining pieces on the program were composed by Sistema in Norwich tutors David Ingham and David Osbourne.  Three additional performances in the series this summer lead up to the 10th Anniversary Concert in October.
