Classical Piano Music by African Composers

Here’s an opportunity to introduce your students or ensemble to African classical music: Rebeca Omordia, an award-winning Nigerian-Romanian pianist, has curated this original playlist of classical piano music by African composers for the BBC’s Classical Music. The six pieces feature celebrated composers from Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, and Morocco, drawing on the influences of traditional African instruments and rhythms. Omordia is the curator of the London African Concert Series, an educational and performance platform that promotes the music of African classical composers. Their next program, Young People’s African Concert, will take place June 4 at The Africa Centre in London.
