Funding… for Carnival Music
04-20-2022
When you’re writing grant applications for your program, is carnival music ever top of mind? It was for the English program NORCA & Sistema in Norwich, which was recently awarded funding to create a youth samba band. The award came through the local Norfolk Community Foundation; the funds are from Arts Council England’s Platinum Jubilee Fund, dedicated to supporting celebrations of Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years of service as Britain’s monarch. The Jubilee is a one-weekend event in June, but NORCA’s samba band will go on—an example of creative thinking around a unique funding opportunity. “No experience necessary,” they announced. “Just come and have a go.”
