Creative Vibrancy Index for Africa

05-17-2023

Africa No Filter and the British Council have published a new resource that can benefit anyone involved or interested in developing arts and cultural projects across Africa. The Creative Vibrancy Index for Africa ranks African cities according to their investment in arts and culture, based on the accessibility of their cultural facilities, their arts-supporting policies, and their capacity to promote culture. The Index visualizes both the gaps and the opportunities in creative industries, highlighting opportunities for jobs, community-building, and youth participation in arts and culture across the continent. The Index currently ranks the top 12 African cities for arts and cultural life. And it’s still growing; new cities can be nominated using this form. The top-ranked performer is Johannesburg, South Africa, followed by Cairo, Egypt and Lagos, Nigeria.
