New Report on Musicians’ Health and Wellbeing

03-15-2023

The European Commission just published a report as part of their “Music Moves Europe” initiative, surveying best practices across the E.U. in maintaining musician health and wellbeing. The report states unequivocally that young musician health should be our first priority, offering and advocating for performance health initiatives designed to support them through their music education careers. Musicians face a swath of risks in a competitive industry, often leading to physical disorders, performance anxiety, and depression, to name just a few outcomes. Warning signals can arise in young musicians and need to be addressed early on. Per this report, this job does not just fall to music teachers and administrators but to public and private sectors as well—share it with funders and administrators alike.
