Carnegie Hall Opens its Doors to Young Musicians

10-19-2022

Carnegie Hall is accepting applications to its national youth ensemble programs this summer at Purchase College, State University of New York. U.S.-based musicians ages 14–19 can apply to one of three ensembles: NYO-USA, NYO2, and NYO Jazz. Invited musicians will have the opportunity to train with renowned musicians and perform in some of the world’s leading concert halls. Young musicians who have not had access to intensive ensemble training opportunities outside of their own communities are especially encouraged to apply for the NYO2 residency. Applications must include a formal nomination submitted by November 30 from a teacher, ensemble director, school administrator, or community leader. If you are in such a role, you probably know some young people who fit the bill—why not give them a nudge to apply? Program and application information for all ensembles can be found here; applications are due December 15.

And for our youngest musicians, Carnegie Hall will premiere Camille’s Rainbow later this montha new immersive performance for babies and toddlers (ages 2 and under) co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall and Minnesota Opera. Encouraging creative play through the exploration of color and sound, the performance will be offered twice daily (10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. EST) from Monday, October 24 to Friday, October 28. Registration is free to attend in person, and audiences outside of the NYC can enjoy six animated videos that share music from the performance via Carnegie’s website.
