One Beat Residency Now Accepting Applications

08-17-2022

One Beat, an initiative of the U.S. State Department and Bang on a Can’s Found Sound Nation, is resuming in-person musical exchange programs following a period of virtual residencies during the pandemic. Musicians ages 19–35 from 50 eligible countries can apply online through September 2, 2022 for an eight-week residency in the U.S., to take place in the spring or fall of 2023. (Applicants should be able to demonstrate musical excellence and prior experience with community-based work.) Musicians will come together to create new music and develop a public engagement program that includes a performance and workshop tour for American audiences. By providing a creative space where musicians from different backgrounds can come together, the residency aims to promote cultural exchange and civic discourse through music. Participants are encouraged to build on these experiences through ongoing engagement with One Beat’s network of music-driven social enterprises.
