New Incubator Programs for Social Justice Music Initiatives in the U.S.

08-17-2022

A new opportunity has emerged for U.S.-based musicians who are active in social justice initiatives. The Vermont nonprofit organization Music to Life has been awarded a $500,000 grant by the Mellon Foundation to support its accelerator programs for musicians working for social justice across the United States. The funding will support four national Accelerator Academies over the coming three years, beginning in early 2023. Participants will join an eight-month intensive incubator program to develop a project idea that benefits communities facing persistent economic, environmental, and racial injustice; they will receive training in strategic planning, organizing, management, and fundraising. Accepted projects will benefit from a matching grant and support from community partners. The program will train up to 75 musicians per year, prioritizing grassroots and BIPOC artists. Musicians can express their interest via this online form (rolling deadline) and upcoming application deadlines will be announced via Music to Life’s mailing list.
