Sphinx Announces Venture Fund Recipients

11-17-2021

The Sphinx Organization has announced three recipients of its Sphinx Venture Fund for 2022, awarding two grants of $100,000 and one grant of $97,500 for projects that meet the fund’s mission: to support initiatives designed to solve a challenge or an issue related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in classical music. The winning projects are Awadagin Pratt and the inaugural Nina Simone Piano Competition; Alexa Smith and the inaugural New York City Opera’s Duncan-Williams Voice Competition; and Weston Sprott and Composing Inclusion. Visit Sphinx (scroll down) to learn more about the winners.

And while you’re there, consider registering for SphinxConnect 2022, a gathering of professionals dedicated to diversity and inclusion in classical music. Happening January 27–29, 2022 in Detroit, MI, the event will include virtual sessions for those unable to travel. The 2022 theme will be “Forging Alliances,” offering guests over 30 sessions designed to spark connection and collaboration. Register at Sphinx.
