Music Education Principles Align with Those in STEM Learning

When we are pushed to identify learning skills that are developed in intensive ensemble music programs, we often include persistence and curiosity. Research now shows that those two capacities are the strongest predictors of academic success in math and reading. This study of students in 11 countries, conducted by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), is the first major global assessment of students’ social and emotional skills—and our programs are developing exactly the most important skills for success in academic subjects.
