Moving Forward from the Pandemic in the Arts

09-07-2021

Chamber Music America’s summer publication, titled What We Learned: Lessons from a School Year Like No Other, features two articles about how organizations are re-entering a changed world during this pandemic:

  • In “Avoiding Monochromaticity in the Arts Post Pandemic,” music educator and entrepreneur Rod Vester challenges the field to critically examine how they are emphasizing equity, diversity, and inclusion. Observing the commitments that organizations have made to racial justice, Vester outlines key areas where organizations must examine their progress: repertoire, ensemble demographics, and culture. Read Vester’s perspective on page 28.
  • In “Lessons Learned: A Positive Perspective from a Challenging Year,” educators across the field share some of the positive outcomes from the past 18 months. Some highlights: sharpened ensemble skills, new learning across continents, and integrating technology as a staple of the learning environment. Find the piece on page 32.
