New Initiatives in Greece Center Young People as Creators and Heroes

03-17-2021

Last June, we told you about UNICEF’s #ChildrenUprooted campaign, which set out to portray three refugee children in Greece, including the El Sistema Greece student Sama, as video game heroes. The project has since launched an online mini video game inspired by their true stories, as part of their now-called “Unlock Their Potential” campaign. The game encourages players—and, by extension, societies—to change their perceptions of migrants and refugees. Learn about the game here and meet the three young heroes via this YouTube clip.

And speaking of ES Greece, their first Young Leaders cohort—13 students from five different countries—have released their first collective composition, “Nostalgia.” Created entirely by the students as a way of expressing themselves in challenging circumstances, it serves as “a reminder that life and music never stop.”
