Music programs all over the globe have been struggling to reinvent themselves as part of the switch to virtual learning. Some were forced to do so while operating in already-challenging learning environments: refugee camps. Though not focusing on a specific music program, this Hechinger Report article about developing digital fluency in an Iraqi refugee camp highlights the importance of bringing technology into early instruction and offers some effective strategies for remote learning. The key? “Basic digital literacy,” which helped students and teachers overcome all manner of Internet-related challenges. Programs with limited technological resources or Internet access will be interested in the article’s findings, which are useful to any organization that wants to develop better remote learning practices.
